'Steampunk Caprica 6' a Third Coast Coterie project

Hello Everyone!

I'm hosting a new challenge at the Third Coast Creative Challenge blog and the theme is Steampunk Pink!  Before you dash off to start creating your entries check out my Steampunk Pink project titled "Steampunk Caprica 6"!

Some of you might get the title straight away but for those of you who aren't watchers of scifi-fantasy TV shows I shall explain ;0)  In the new version of Battlestar Galactica the Cylons evolved from robots into human-like cyborgs.  The main Cylon was model #6 and she was a blonde and there were a few versions of her and one of them became known as Caprica Six.  Now you see where I'm going with this one ;0)  However, I'm also a Firefly fan and I loved the Steampunk vibe of the series.  So my Steampunk project depicts what the #6 Cylon would have looked like if BSG had taken place in the Firefly universe...yes, this is the kind of thing that goes on in my head LOL ;0)

The use of the colour pink is dominant coz of the current Third Coast challenge of course and the star of the show is Third Coast's stamp called Geared Up (KG-058-X)!

The image was stamped 3 times with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth heavy weight cardstock.  I added a lot of dimension to my project by layering sections of the stamped image and fussy cutting everything out.  All the layers were adhered in place with KoolTak clear foam tape.  I'm absolutely loving this new clear foam tape instead of using white or black pop dots!!!

I used the following Sketch Copic markers to do all the colouring:
Hair:  Y15, 17 and 38
Skin:  E0000 and 01
Lips/Eyeshadow:  RV10
Clothes:  V0000, RV10 and 13
Eyes and Glass areas:  B000 and 02
Steampunk leather and gears:  E11, 13, 15, 18, W3, 5, C3, 5 and 7.
Metallic details were added with gold and silver gel pens.

The two photos above show the layering details on the face and I attached a tiny brass jump ring to Caprica's ear to replace the stamped image of the earring.

I added even more dimension with all the pink paper roses (Treasures by Shabby Chic), sprigs of pearls (Kirklands), 4 black self-adhesive pearls (Recollections) and various gears and cogs (Tim Holtz Idea-ology, Bead Landing Found Object Charms and Skybluepink) and attached them with tiny brads in various metals.  The flourishes with leaves are segments from two dies by Cheery Lynn Designs (Fancy Flourish and Holly Flourish).

I made a folded card from white cardstock and cut the pink floral decorative mat slightly smaller and adhered a smaller decorative paper mat across the lower portion and distressed all the edges with Tim's paper distresser tool.   Both decorative papers are from the Tres Belle collection by My Mind's Eye.  I cut two lengths of black silky ribbon with a metallic gold design (Michaels) and adhered them in place over the seems and then adhered the stamped image to the card and added all the embellishments.  Everything was adhered in place with a combination of Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive and Judikins Diamond Glaze

So have I inspired you to pull out all your pink supplies and get your Steampunk action on?  I hope so coz I'd like to invite you all to come play with me in the TCCC#4 Steampunk Pink challenge which begins Friday Aug 31!  See you over there soon ;0)

I've entered this project in the following challenges:
Crafty Bloggers Network #2 - Pink and Black
Dream Valley Challenges #39 - Steampunk
Joyful Stamper - Inspire me Fridays #73 - Anything Goes
Cheery Lynn Designs #43 - Anything Goes

The Owl and the PussyCat - another Blockheads' FairyTale Project!

Hello Everyone!
I'm thrilled to bits that you all enjoyed my 'Tea Time Hissy Fit' fairytale project so much, thank you for all the wonderful comments you left for me :0)

I'm back today with another fun 'Fringe Fairytail' project for Blockheads Paper Arts and this time we're going to sea with the Owl and the Pussycat!  This one measures 7.50 inches x 7.25 inches.

I was inspired by the poem by Edward Lear.

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
          You are,
          You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!'...

But in my little scenario the Steampunk-esque Owl and Pussycat are just best buddies off on an amazing adventure and admiring the stars on the way ;0)
This one isn't as detailed as 'Tea Time Hissy Fit' but still took a little bit of extra time to make and I had loads of fun stamping up a storm which luckily didn't effect my fringe folk in their little boat!

Stamp the Pussycat onto a sheet of Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  Mask the left side of the image and stamp the Owl.  Both images are from Blockheads' latest stamp set "Fringe Fairytails".

Colour the images with a combination of the following Sketch Copic markers:
E0000, 000, 00, 11, 13, 15, 18, 19, 41, 43, BG45, 49, B000, G09, 24, 28, Y17, 38, C0, 3 and 5.  Add details with a metallic silver gel pen and hightlights with a white gel pen.  Cut out the images and also cut off Puss's tail...don't worry, he didn't feel a thing and it gets re-attached once he's in the boat ;0)

Create a starry night sky on a sheet of white cardstock.  First apply Stormy Sky Distress Stain in a swirly action which reminds me of a Van Gogh sky...the swirls are really much darker in reality than they appear in the above photo.  Spritz the entire sheet with Fireworks Danube Blue to add the glorious shimmer.  Zap the background cardstock with a heat gun to dry it.

Randomly stamp the the star image from Blockheads' Christmas Morning stamp set all over with Brilliance Platinum Planet.  Put aside to dry.

Stamp the Waves image from Blockheads' Seascapes-Fishes stamp set twice onto a sheet of white glossy cardstock with Ranger's Clear Resist Pad and heat set with a heat gun.  Spritz Stream Adirondack Color Wash onto a non-stick craft sheet and smear the glossy cardstock around on the ink to create the glorious mottled watery effect.  Immediately wipe at the ink with a piece of scrunched up paper towel to remove the excess ink and make the resist image appear.

Cut out the waves and add some white details with Inkssentials Enamel Accents and put aside to dry.

Cut a boat shape from a piece of corrugated kraft board and stain it green with Bundled Sage Distress Ink.  The boat is still wet in the photo above...you can see in the other photos that the ink dries a lighter green.

Stamp up a fancy label on a scrap piece of the sea cardstock using one of Blockheads' full sheet of Alphabet fonts.  I used the script font that has both upper and lower case and stamped each letter separately with Ranger's Jet Black Archival Ink.  I eyeballed all the placement which was a bit tricky...I'm not totally happy with 'PussyCat', I didn't get the 'y' where I wanted it.  Die cut the label out with a Quickutz die.  Use the same die as a stencil and trace the outside edge onto a scrap piece of black cardstock and cut it out with scissors.  Edge the black mat with a metallic silver paint pen and adhere the stamped label to the mat with double sided tape.

Make a sail from a piece of vellum and add white stitches all around the outer edge with a white gel pen.  The mast is a spare wood reed from a mini oil diffuser set I picked up in Target's $1 section a few years ago.

Adhere all the elements to the starry night background panel with craft glue and distress the edges of the panel with Tim's paper distress tool.  Cut a mat from black cardstock slightly larger than the starry night panel.  Then a mat from pale metallic green cardstock and finally a larger mat from black cardstock (7.5 inches x 7.25 inches) and assemble and adhere everything with craft glue.  Embellish all the stars and the fancy label with small blue crystal self adhesive rhinestones by Recollections.  Add an easel back to finish off this paper arts project.

Here's a closer look at some of the details and you can see the lighter green boat in these pics too.

I hope you've enjoyed checking out my latest Fairytale paper arts project!  You can also see what my fellow Blockheads DT mates are doing with the Fringe Folktails below in the inlinkz collection!
Thanks for stopping by ;0)

"Tea Time Hissy Fit" - when things go horribly wrong at a Wonderland tea party!

Once upon another day in Wonderland at another Mad Hatter Tea Party....

I was excited to find an invite to the party when I got home from spying on all the guests and I see you all did too so welcome to the party!  I'm so glad you all decided to dress up in the Steampunk style too, the Mad Hatter will be so pleased :0)

Pull up a chair and help yourself to some tea and cake....UHO, what is all that ruckus about?

Oh NO!  The Mad Hatter is making fun of the Cheshire Cat's wings...the horror...and...oh my, the Cheshire Cat is throwing a huge hissy fit!!!!

....a few seconds later....

Oh dear, the Cheshire Cat just stalked off in a huff...well that was an unfortunate turn of events!

Well, you're all here now so I may as well tell you how I created my "Tea Time Hissy Fit" diorama while you enjoy your tea and cake ;0)

See my Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Royal Rooster and the Rocketeer posts to see how this project began with Blockheads' new Fringe Folktails stamp set and then continue reading!

I also used the tea set and text images from Blockheads' Coffee Tea stamp set and stamped them with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock.

I used the following Copic Sketch markers on the tea set:
E0000, 000, 41, R27, 39, 46 and a white gel pen to add all the highlights.  Completely cut out all the images with a pair of sharp detail scissors and put all of the stamped elements to one side for now.

Create the 'tree trunk' frame for the diorama and the table from two different shades of brown cardstock and emboss the wood grain design into them with Tim Holtz' Woodgrain Texture Fades embossing folder.  Apply Black Soot Distress Ink to all the embossed areas with a foam ink applicator.  The tea party took place in the Wonderland forest so I embossed a sheet of white cardstock with Cuttlebug's Stylized Flowers embossing folder 3 times to cover the entire piece.  Colour the daisies with Copics Y11 and 15, the stems with YG11 and added some details with YR07.
For a touch of sky I used a Blue Derwent Pastel pencil and blended it with a Dove Blender pen.  Cut a mat from black cardstock the same size as the white embossed panel and adhere them together with Xyron adhesive.

Cut a real doily in half for the table cloth and dry lay all the stamped elements to determine their positions and adhere everything in place one by one.  Edge the entire diorama with a metallic gold paint pen.

A closer look at all those details.

Give the Cheshire Cat's wings and the Mad Hatter's outstretched arm some dimension by curving the cardstock.

For the fairytale 'Tea Time" book I stamped the text onto a scrap piece of Neenah cardstock and die cut it out with a Spellbinders Deckle edge Rectangle die.  Distress the book 'page' with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Die cut out the book 'cover' from a scrap piece of brown cardstock with a Spellbinders Labels 7 die and distress it with a touch of Black Soot Distress Ink.  Edge both the cover and the page with a metallic gold paint pen.  Fold the die cuts in half, curve the cardstock pieces and adhere them together to form the open fairytale book.  Adhere the book to the diorama with dimensional clear KoolTak foam tape

Punch a tiny hole into the bottom edge of the book and attach a jeweled antique gold alarm clock charm to it with a tiny jump ring (Bead Landing Found Objects - Michaels).  Decorate the entire diorama with flowers and leaves because we are in a Wonderland forest remember!  Die cut out some leaves with Spellbinders Shapeabilities Foliage die from green cardstock and crease and scrunch them to give them dimension.  The smaller leaves and little flourishes are clippings from a Cheery Lynn Designs Fanciful Flourish die.  Distress the leaves with Tea Dye and Black Soot Distress inks.  The paper flowers are all by Scrapeabilities and I embellished all the centers with Recollections flat back clear gems.  I also added some real vintage watch parts for that extra Steampunk touch.  Everything was adhered in place with Judikins Diamond Glaze.

Complete the diorama with a small Tim Holtz Alterations easel die cut from black cardstock and adhere it to the back with craft glue.

Phew, that was quite a lot of work with all the planning, colouring, cutting and assembling but totally worth it!  I'm thrilled with how it all turned out and so is Di, the creator of these wonderful little creatures!  Now my diorama is on its way to Portland Oregon to live in Blockheads' brand new store :0)

Who else is going to the 'Tea Party'? Intro #3

The fairytail continues....so quick story recap...

Once upon another day in Wonderland some very quirky characters are excitedly getting ready to attend a steampunk themed costume Tea Party.

We've already peeked in on the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat getting ready for the party so let's see who else we can spy on ;0)

Oh my, looks like we've stumbled upon the Royal Rooster and his best friend, The Rocketeer!  They are ready and heading off to the party already!  Don't they look like a handsome pair ;0)

The Royal Rooster
The Rocketeer
Both of these feathered beauties are from Blockheads Paper Arts' brand new Steampunk-esque "Fringe Folktails" and in celebration of the launch the set is currently on sale for $12!

Stamp both images with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and colour with the following Copic Sketch markers

All the feathers are coloured with a combo of E0000, 000, 11, 13, 15, 18 and 41.  The Rooster's Head gear: E15 and 09, Crown: Y17 and 23 with W1 and C3 to give it a tarnished gold effect and also add some shadows.  Beaks:  Y17 and 23 with R39 and 46 on the Rooster.  Talons: Y17 and 23.  Owl's eyes are G09 and all the Steampunk get-up: W1, 3, 5, C0, 3 and 5.

Complete the look with touches of metallic silver and gold Promarkers with hightlights of white gel pen.  Completely cut out the images with a pair of sharp detail scissors.  Add Judikins Diamond Glaze to the Owl's googles for a glass-like finish.

So it looks like we've met everyone that is invited to the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.  Let's head on over and see if we can grab a cup of tea and a piece of cake when no one is looking..... ;0)

Steampunk 'Tea Party' character intro #2 ;0)

The fairytail story continues....

Once upon another day in Wonderland some very quirky characters are excitedly getting ready to attend a steampunk themed costume Tea Party.

We've already peeked in on the Mad Hatter getting ready for the party so let's see who else we can spy on ;0)

Ah, look, there's the Cheshire Cat, and oh my, what on earth is he wearing?  Are those wings?

The Cheshire Cat is from the same set as the Mad Hatter, Blockheads Paper Arts' brand new Steampunk-esque "Fringe Folktails" and in celebration of the launch the set is currently on sale for $12!

Stamp the winged kitty with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock.  I decided to go with the Disney colour scheme for my Cheshire Cat so that he would be instantly recognizable and coloured him with the following Copic Sketch markers:

Fur and Wings: V01, 06, 15, 17, RV10 and 13
Steampunk get-up: W1, 3, 5, C0, 3 and 5.

Complete the look with touches of metallic silver Promarkers with hightlights of white gel pen.  Completely cut out the entire image with a pair of sharp detail scissors.
Okay, we'd better leave kitty to it and see who else we can spy on....

Getting 'Alice' Arty with Paper Artsy - Blockheads DT projects

Hello Everyone!

This week I had the pleasure of playing around with a great stamp image from the Paper Artsy by Lynne Perella collection now available at Blockheads Paper Arts!  My fellow DT mates are also creating with Paper Artsy stamps so check out the growing inlinkz collection at the end of my post for more great ideas!

I adore all things Alice and you might have even spotted her featured on my blog logo above ;0)  I'm always in the mood for creating Alice in Wonderland themed projects and I've submitted some to the Just Steampunk II call so hopefully you'll get to see them soon, keep your fingers crossed ;0)  I had a blast creating the two paper art pieces above using the same image from the Royalty LPC007 set.

ALICE
QUEEN OF HEARTS
Stamp the image twice onto Neenah Solar White cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  Scan and print out some yellowed pages from a vintage Alice In Wonderland book by Lewis Carrol.  Tear the edges, run them through a Xyron to add permanent adhesive or use a glue stick to adhere them to the stamped panels.  In a very free flowing manner scribble yellow, blue and red Lyra Aqua Crayons to fill in the white spaces.  Use a paint brush with water and blend all the colours to create a watercolour wash.

Colour both images with Copic Sketch markers.  I used the following on the Alice piece:  BG01, 05, 09, E41, 02, R46 and 39.  I used the following on the Queen of Hearts piece:  E41, 02, BG01, 09, Y38, R46 and 39.  Apply Distress Stains directly over the book pages and the watercolour crayons.  I used Picket Fence first to white wash everything for a cohesive feel except for the upper torso and head of both images and then apply Stormy Sky, Fired Brick, Pumice Stone and a touch of Tea Dye.  Scrape at the torn edges of the pages with your finger nail or something sharp to lift the edges to reveal the white cardstock beneath.

Apply Tea Dye and Black Soot Distress Inks to both panels with a foam ink applicator too.  Apply 3D Scribbles Shiny Christmas Red to the hearts on both images.  I love the dimension and the bright red hearts against all the darker colours in the pieces.

Adhere more pages from the AIW book to Grungeboard and die cut out the words 'Alice' and 'Hearts' from Tim's new Word Play Bigz XL die.  I initially didn't plan an getting this die coz it's quite expensive but I caved when I found it on sale and decided to go for it coz the alphabet is actually quite big and can cut anything so it is a good one to have in your stash!

Besides the fun you can have with all the die cut letters you can also use the negative pieces too!  I like the ransom letter style the negative pieces have with the chunks taken out by the neighbouring letters on the die.  Apply a white wash to all the letters first with Distress Stain Picket Fence, then add Tea Dye Distress Stain and apply Black Soot Distress Ink around all the edges with the foam ink applicator.  Finish off by loosely edgeing all the letters with a metallic gold Marvy Le Plume paint pen.  Adhere the letters to the pieces with craft glue.  Use the same metallic gold paint pen to add gold details to the images and to draw a free flowing line around the entire edge of both pieces.

Apply Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint to all the letters, to the edges of both pieces and to the lower portion of the stamped images and allow to dry.  You can see in these two photos how yummy the crackle is!  Such a cool effect!

Embellish both pieces with a huge antique metal key from Michaels.  The keys are adhered in place with craft glue but to ensure they stay put I also attached them to the cardstock wtih a piece of very thin craft wire wrapped around one of the grooved parts.  Just poke two small holes with a needle or pointy tool and thread the wire through to the back and twist closed.  Cut out two mats from red textured cardstock and adhere the stamped panels to them with craft glue.

Now that I've finished writing my post and seeing my Queen of Hearts project photos uploaded I've decided she needs a large 'Q' embellishment or a Queen of Hearts playing card in the upper left corner!  What do you all think?

Here you can see my two new art pieces on display on my zebra stripe painted studio wall with my pewter Alice In Wonderland light switch cover...see told you I was a big Alice fan ;0)

I've entered my pieces into the following challenges!
Divas by Design #47 - For a Female - I made these for me ;0)
