"The Curse of the Glitter Fairies" Mini Book for Smudgy Antics Glitter & Gore Challenge

Hello Friends!
We're now entering week 2 of Smudgy Antics Glitter and Gore Challenge!
We challenge you to bring on the gore but you must bling it up with glitter!  Are you up to the challenge?  As always the Smeared Ink design team has your back if you're in need of some inspiration and here's my mini book to give you some ideas on how to combine glitter and gore into one fabulous project ;0)

"The Curse of the Glitter Fairies"
My title is in French on the book cover

All the images are by Smeared Ink:
French Fairies digital stamps,
Angel - As Death and the Winged Heart - Heart Wings set

I printed out the French Fairies onto a transparency sheet and coloured the fairies and parts of the image with various glitter glues.  Then attached them to white cardstock while the glitter glue was still wet.  I put two of the images back to back to form the cover and the first page and attached them together with Quick Dry Adhesive and polka dot washi tape around all the edges.  The 2nd page and the back of the book were attached just around the edges on 3 sides only, leaving the right edge open to form a pocket for the tab pull out.  The back cover is made from red cardstock embossed with eBosser Regency embossing folder and Black Soot Distress Ink was applied to the embossed design.

Now for the gorey part of my mini book...I made the pull out tab from red cardstock and covered it with bloody splatters with Fired Brick and Black Soot Distress Stains.  The Angel of Death image was stamped on the front with Jet Black Archival ink and details added with a silver glitter gel pen.  The Winged Heart was stamped on the back and coloured with Picket Fence Distress Marker and the silver glitter pen.  The edges were tattered with Tim's Paper Distresser tool and then Black Soot Distress Ink was added.  My story was written with a white gel pen and it says:

"Glitter Fairies are a forlorn race of gentle fae folk that live in the light.  But they live in terror of when the night descends.  They fear the blackest of nights when the moon doesn't cast it's protective light upon the land.  That is when the curse descends upon them and they become terrifying creatures of the night.  They are forever doomed until they find the Sacred Winged Heart of the Light!"

I used a Spellbinders die to cut out the decorative spine and tab from black cardstock.  I applied black glitter with gold flecks in it to both sides of each piece before adhering them in place with Quick Dry Adhesive.  I also added glitter glue dots to the back cover too.

I cut up to sections from the decorative strip to add to the title tab I made from left over red cardstock treated with the blood splats.  The title was attached to the cover with a bit of double sided tape and two tiny vintage gold brads which was done before the cover and page were adhered together.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you enjoyed reading my scary fairy tale story and that I've inspired you to take the challenge :0)

DominoART Challenge #3 'Toxic Tonic' Half-O-Ween Playing Card + Domino

Hello Friends!

DominoART's 3rd Challenge started Friday April 26 and here's the inspiration piece I created.
The featured game for this one is Playing Cards and the theme is Half-O-Ween coz May is DominoART's 15 Days of Half-O-Ween event.  I'm looking for scary creations to feature so if you'd like to play then pop over and check out all the details here!

'Toxic Tonic'
Click on the photos to enlarge so you can see the details.
I used a Crooked Deck playing card and a domino on my easel type card.

Stamp the crooked playing card with one of Tim Hotz Skull Components stamp in Blazing Red StazOn ink.  Make a black card with two narrow folds on the sides with the side flaps cut at an angle so it stands with a slight lean backwards.  Distress the edges of the playing card and the black card with Tim's Paper Distresser tool.  Adhere the playing card and decorative Halloween border strips (Recollections and Martha Stewart Crafts) along the sides with Quick Dry Adhesive and Tim Holtz Idea-ology tape along the top and bottom edges.  Attach an apothecary label to the card with tiny staples....I nearly added authentic blood drops to my creation after stapling my finger tip when my stapler jammed...ouch!

Now for the domino...apply Meadow, Pesto, Cool Peri and Purple Twilight Alcohol Inks to a white standard sized domino surface and all 4 sides.  Rub at the surface with a wet baby wipe until some of the colour is removed for a distressed look.  Stamp the Tim Holtz X-Ray Components stamp onto the domino with Jet Black StazOn ink and add a portion of the paper tape that says 'Poison' to the bottom edge.  Colour the word 'Poison' with red Sharpie.  Seal the domino with a few coats of Krylon Artists Workable Fixative.  Age and distress the card with Tea Dye Distress Ink and then adhere the domino to the card with Judikins Diamond Glaze.

Have a fabulous weekend!
Happy Stamping!

"Serenity of the Sea" Asymmetrical Asian Amulet

Hello Friends!

This month the Blockheads Paper Arts DT has been playing with Grungeboard and today I'm sharing an asymmetrical Asian-water themed necklace I designed with Blockheads stamps, Jet Black StazOn ink, Grungeboard Shapes - Stripes, Perfect Pearls, Magic Transparent White Viva Pearl Pen and jewelry supplies.

I used the following stamps from Blockheads Paper Arts: Waves and Chinese text from the Chinese Princess set and the Seahorse from the Seashells with Round Sand Frame set.

My necklace is also reversible!  For an all silver look just turn the necklace and the fish charm around!
I had a blast creating this project and it really is quite easy to do.  Begin by designing the layout of various sized Grungeboard circles and then paint each one with a combination of Green Patina and Blue Smoke Perfect Pearls mixed with very small amounts of water.  The PP dries very fast on the Grungeboard so you can go onto the next fairly quickly.  Ink up the stamps with Jet Black StazOn ink and stamp the images onto the circles.  Then edge and colour the backs of each circle with a metallic silver paint pen.  I used DecoColor Liquid Silver.

Add dimensional 'water droplets' to the circles with the Magic Transparent White Viva Pearl Pen.
The droplets are opaque and then magically transform once dry.  In the photos below you can see them while they're still wet and then the last set of photos shows how some turned transparent with sparkle and others look like silver pearls.  So effective!

Punch tiny holes into the circles and connect each one to the next with silver jump rings.  Add silver chain and complete the look with a silver fish charm.

I hope you enjoyed checking out my asymmetrical amulet!  Thanks for stopping by ;0)

and we're entering into the 4th week of
DominoART Challenge #2 Alice Domino Books sponsored by Rick St Dennis

Today I'm sharing another one of my domino books.  Last week I made a book with Doublecross Dominoes and my theme was 'Down the Rabbit Hole'.  This time I've made a vintage Alice illustration book with vintage Spinner dominoes and the Rick St Dennis Digital Alice Domino Book kit Rick designed especially for DominoART in celebration of our birthday :0)

I used the 'Alice' image for my covers and the 'Through the Looking Glass' pages for my book.  The images were printed out onto white paper and torn to create the ragged edges.  I coloured the covers with Copic markers but left the pages uncoloured so that they'd look like illustrations in my vintage copy of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

After accordion folding the book pages I aged them and the covers with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  The dominoes I used are a yellowish cream colour and are slightly smaller than a standard domino.  These particular ones are called Spinner Dominoes because they have a brass pin in the center of the domino face which allows them to spin around.  I decided to adhere the book covers to the face of the dominoes so that you can see the pips, that's what the dots are called, and I stuck the brass spinner pins back in afterwards too.  I also decided to make this one into a more traditional book with a spine so glued the backs of the pages together.  Before adhering the pages to the dominoes I added two lengths of black embroidery floss as my tie closure then adhered the pages to the dominoes with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  I completed my mini vintage book with the title and the author's name, Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.  I actually scanned a page that only had half a page of text on it from my vintage Alice In Wonderland book into Photoshope CS6 and typed out the text using the same font as the book in the blank area.  I printed it out, tore the edges, treated them with Tea Dye Distress Ink and adhered the pieces to the spine of my domino book.  I then tied the black floss into a bow to close the book and knotted the ends.

I hope I've inspired you to come and play in the Alice Domino Book Challenge and I hope to see you all over at DominoART enjoying the Birthday Celebrations Bash too ;0)

"The Girl that's Hidden" Zentangles for Smudgy Antics

    Hello Friends!

It's week 2 of the Smudgy Antics "Tic Tac Toe Challenge and yesterday I shared my first Zentangle creation, "The Girl with Daisies in her Hair", which is based on the three items I selected from the Tic Tac Toe grid:  Paint, Doodles and Cardboard.  I got my Zentangle action on with two digi images from Smeared Ink's new Hidden set and today I'm sharing a more complex Zentangle creation titled "The Girl That's Hidden".

This one started out the same as my first piece where I added the black frame in Photoshop CS6 and printed the Smeared Ink image out onto white cardstock.  For the 'doodles' part of the Tic Tac Toe challenge this time I decorated the entire image with the following Zentangle patterns.  Her hair is a combination of Bannah, Stubs (the pencil tips), Bleeding Hearts, Btl Joos, Alice and Emilie.  The background is a combination of Flora, Weave and variation of the Weave in all 4 corners.

I used a combination of 01 - 05 black Micron pigment markers by Sakura and a pencil to add all the shading.  Click on the photos for a closer look at all the details!  I have the Zentangle books available from Design Originals but you will also find a wealth of info if you Google the pattern names I used too.

I used my Perfect Layers tool #1 to trim leaving a 1/8" border of white cardstock then adhered the panel to black cardstock with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.  Then used Perfect Layers tool #2 to cut the black mat leaving a 3/16" border.  I'll be posting more about these fabulous tools this week but in the meanwhile you can use the links to check them out and don't forget to use my special coupon code Leigh5% to get 5% off your entire Perfect Paper Crafting order!

For the 'cardboard' part of the challenge I tore a strip of corrugated cardboard and stained it black with Black Soot Distress Stain.  Once the cardboard was dry I used my 3rd selection, paint, and dry brushed on white acrylic paint to highlight the corrugated ridges.  I folded a sheet of white cardstock in half to form the card base and adhered the cardboard with Quick Dry Adhesive then adhered the main panel with Create & Craft 3D Silicone Glue.

Now it's your turn!  Pop over to Smudgy Antics and take the challenge for the chance to win a $5 Smeared Ink gift voucher :0)

"Bird Wings" Window Hanging for Blockheads

    Hello Friends!
This month the Blockheads design team are featuring projects created with Grungeboard.  Last week I shared my faux metal scraps photo frame and this week I've been playing with Grungeboard Alphabets, Distress Stains and Crackle Paint, StazOn ink, Blockheads Bird stamps and recycled acetate!

My "Bird Wings" window hanging is sort of along the lines of a sun catcher except it is more of an art piece that allows you to still view the nature out the window through the acetate frame!

In the baggie of Grungeboard provided by Blockheads Paper Arts I was thrilled to find enough assorted Alphabets letters to make up the words 'Bird' and 'Wings'.  I stained the letters front and back with Distress Stains Stormy Sky and Bundled Sage then edged them with Black Soot Distress ink.  I recycled a Sizzix die box made from acetate and used the largest Spellbinders Labels 8 die as a template to cut out the shape which I then decorated with various bird and feather images from Blockheads Frogs and Birds set stamped with Jet Black StazOn ink.

I poked holes along the bottom edge of the 'Bird' letters and the upper edge of the 'Wings' letters then painted them with Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint.  Then rubbed Black Soot Distress Ink over them once dry to bring out the cracks then rubbed away the excess ink with a piece of paper towel.  I attached the letters together with silver jump rings and adhered them to the acetate frame with Judikins Diamond Glaze.  I then punched 2 holes into the top edge of the frame, attached jump rings and tied on off-white sheer ribbon so it can be hung in front of a window.  For the finishing touch I also stamped another bird onto a scrap piece of acetate, fussy cut it out and adhered it to the letter 'n'.

Nightmare Fun House featuring new Smeared Ink digi images!

    Hello Friends!
Today I'm excited to share my bizarre Nightmare Fun House with a scary attraction hidden inside so keep reading if you dare!  I've been a fan of Stephen King forever and my Fun House is something that would definitely mysteriously appear on the outskirts of Derry....dare to enter at your own peril haaaaahaaaaaa!

I'm featuring some of Smeared Inks newest digi releases so if you like quirky and bizarre then you're going to want to check these out ;0)  I used images from two of their new releases.  Most are from the  Circus Procession set and I used the large mask collage image from the Venice set.  The Ring Mistress is from their Femdom set.

This project took me a few days to do coz I literally designed and invented it as I went along so I will try and give you dimensions where I can.

I enlarged the mask collage in Photoshop CS6 and printed out 7 copies onto white cardstock.  I used 2 sheets taped together to make the roof of the Fun House and two for the walls.  The roof circle diameter is 7.25 inches and the walls are 5 inches high.  I wanted the shape to be very quirky so the bottom is round (4" diameter) and then turns into a square at the top which was very tricky getting it all to work and fit together ;0)  I masked off each section with removable tape and coloured the outside of the Fun House with Fired Brick and Stormy Sky Distress Stains.  I coloured the other side of the roof with a black Copic marker and lined the walls with black cardstock (adhered with Xyron permanent adhesive).  I then decided afterward it was assembled to line the interior with tin foil.  I added narrow black washi tape (Recollections) to all the divisions.  The base circle was cut from black cardstock and the walls adhered to it with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive.   I cut two more matching circles and covered the base to hide the wall attachment and another inside to make it more sturdy.

The roof shape was created by scoring folds and then pinching and adhering the outer edges.  I painted a toothpick black with Sharpie paint pen and poked a hole through the middle of the roof and adhered the Carnival flag with glue and more black washi tape.  The word 'Carnival' was added to the flag in Photoshop, printed onto white cardstock and coloured with Copics.

Are you ready to find out what scary nightmares are waiting for you inside?  How about a mirror maze filled with posters that come alive when your back is turned with the devilish Ring Mistress waiting for you in the center?  Scared yet haaaahaaaahaaa!

I created my mirror maze in the exploding box concept with 4 outer flaps and 4 inner flaps.  The outer sections are 10" long in total and the inner sections are 8" long and all 8 are 2.5" wide making the inner domain 2.5 " square.  I used a Marvy paper punch on all the flap corners, edged them with Black Soot Distress Ink then adhered tin foil mirrors to the backs of the 4 inner flaps so that the living posters on the opposite walls are reflected in them.

All of the posters were altered in Photoshop, printed out on white cardstock and coloured with Y38, R29, E15 and B32 Copics.  I distressed the edges with Tim's Paper Distresser tool, crumpled them to add creases and then aged with Tea Dye Distress Ink applied with a foam ink applicator.  I printed my Ring Mistress out twice with one of them reversed so I could adhere them together to make her nice and sturdy.  I fussy cut her out and left the base with two flaps which then went through the slit I cut into the center square of the mirror maze.  You can see the flap in the pic above adhered to the underside.  Phew, that was a lot of work but totally worth it.  I'm pleased with how it turned out :0)  FYI, all the linked products are available at Blockheads Paper Arts!

Here's a closer look at all the details!

Thanks for visiting with me today, I hope I haven't given you nightmares now ;0)

Industrial Grunge Photo Frame with Grungeboard Scraps

    Hello Friends!

Today I'm sharing an Industrial Grunge style photo frame I've created for Blockheads Paper Arts.  The Blockheads team are featuring Grungeboard this month so I went with a faux scrap metal look using scraps of Grungeboard and metallic Distress Stains

This is what the photo frame looked like originally.  I've got a few in different colours so I used the one with a metallic silver finish to begin with.

Blockheads gave us all a baggie of Grungeboard scraps to play with.  My baggie consisted of the negatives from the dot embossed Alphabets with some wonderful striated pieces which I'll be using for another project and some letters.  The dot embossed Alphabet pieces immediately reminded me of some metal pieces I remember my Dad having in the garage and there was a large lower case letter D in my baggie...perfect....and that's how this project came about.  Today is my Daddy's birthday too so I'm dedicating this project to him in loving memory and plan to put some photos of him in my new frame :0)

I cut the Alphabet negatives into smaller pieces and painted them with Brushed Pewter, Antiqued Bronze and Tarnished Brass metallic Distress Stains.  All the pieces were adhered to the frame with craft glue.  I started out by using straight edged pieces to frame the photo windows and then just filled in and added pieces like a mosaic or jigsaw puzzle as I went along.  It was a bit of a time consuming process but very relaxing to sit and fiddle with all the bits to make them fit ;0)

Once all the pieces were attached I added the large letter D and dimpled the centers of all the embossed dots on the letter to resemble rivets.  The photos above show the frame with all the pieces treated with the metallic Distress Stains before I antiqued it.

I wanted an Industrial Grunge look so I painted everything with Delta Ceramcoat black Antiquing Gel to instantly age the frame and give it an oily grimey look.  Allow the gel to puddle in all the nooks and crevices and wipe the excess off the surface of the pieces with paper towel.  Once dry I brushed more metallic Distress Stains onto the embossed areas to bring out more of the shine.  Both work equally well, which look do you prefer?

Stop by the Blockheads blog for more Grungeboard projects by my fellow team mates!
Thanks for visiting with me today and don't forget that my 2nd DominoART Challenge is underway....Alice in Wonderland Domino Books sponsored by Rick St Dennis Digital Stamps!  I hope you'll come and play us :0)
