"Chinese Medallion Card" Melt Art Texture Tread Series for Blockheads Part 3!

Hello Stamping Friends!
I'm back with another Melt Art Texture Tread project and this time its an awesome Chinese inspired card featuring a gold UTEE medallion!

I've been working on some Melt Art projects for Blockheads Paper Arts for the last couple of weeks and so far you've seen a gold UTEE bracelet and a pendant made with clear UTEE with Perfect Pearls mixed in to give it a luscious shimmer!  Click on the two photos below to go directly to those tutorials if you missed them!

This time I'm excited to share a mixed media project with a Chinese theme!  The gold UTEE medallion really makes a dramatic statement don't you think!

To create the medallion I used the same Melt Art Texture Tread by Ranger that I made my two previous projects with.  The Texture Tread is called Floral Flourishes and I used gold UTEE and a large round cookie cutter to create the shape.  For detailed instructions on how to work with the Texture Treads please check out Part 1 and Part 2 in my tutorial series!

I really love the swirled effect created as I poured the molten UTEE.  It reminds me of a tree's growth rings and adds to the Nature theme of the design.

The gold medallion really is quite beautiful as is but I decided to try out something different and applied gold leaf to just the embossed design!  I painted the design with leafing size/glue and applied the gold leaf.  The luxurious glow of the precious metal really makes the medallion look even more special which gave me the idea to transform it into a sacred medallion found on an ancient Chinese scroll.  So that's how this card came about!

Stamp the gorgeous Chinese circle image found on the Chinese Traditional Full Sheet #2 exclusive to Blockheads Paper Arts onto the cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine ink.  Colour the image with Tim's new Distress Markers.  I used Peeled Paint on the greenery, Fired Brick on the cones, Tea Dye on the tree trunk with a touch of Pumice Stone for shading and Dried Marigold on the blossoms.     Apply Pumic Stone Distress Ink to the white cardstock with an ink foam applicator.  When most of the ink is off the foam gently swipe it across the white area inside the circle just for a very subtle hint of colour.

Stamp the Crackle Background from Blockheads exclusive Backgrounds for All Occasions sheet with Pumice Stone Distress Ink all over the cardstock and around the outer edge of the circle.  Also stamp the crackle inside the circle leaving just a faint impression.
psst..the single Crackle background stamp is currently on sale!

Over stamp the crackle background with a faint Chinese script from the Chinese Princess set in Rhubarb Red Memento ink.  To get the look of faded writing ink up the stamp and press it onto scrap paper first to remove most of the wet ink and then stamp the cardstock.

Distress the edges of the cardstock with Tim's Distress tool and apply Tea Dye Distress ink, then Rhubarb Stalk Memento ink and finally a touch of gold with a metallic paint pen to the distressed edges.  Stamp the large Chinese script onto the panel with Tea Dye Distress ink and paint over the impression with gold leafing size/glue.  Once the adhesive is ready apply the gold leaf to it.  I added a drop shadow to the gold leafed script with a touch of Pumice Stone Distress marker to give it more dimension.  Stamp the square Chinese Chop with Rhubarb Stalk.  I decided to go with the square one to mirror the square side of the card.  Apply yellow glitter glue to the greenery and all the blossoms in the stamped image and while that dries prepare the rest of the card.  Cut a mat from dark red cardstock and then make a top fold card from sage green cardstock to match the shape.  Wrap two wooden reed sticks from a mini Reed Diffuser with traditional red Chinesse silk cord (I picked this up in Montreal's China Town).  Layer and adhere all the mats and the stamped panel with double sided tape and embellish the card with all the pieces.  Adhere the reeds, the 3 authentic Chinese coins and the gold medallion to the card with small dabs of craft glue.

I'm really thrilled with how well this one turned it!  It's so satisfying when a project I envision in my heads turns out exactly as I saw it!  I'm not done with my Melt Art series, I've still got more up my sleeve so stay tuned ;0)

Spring's Muse B-Day card - Third Coast Creative Coterie Project

Happy Friday again!
Wow, the weeks are sure flying by and summer is finally here!  Yippie :0)
Check out this birthday card I created for my precious sister, Paula, so no peeking Sissypoo until it arrives in your mitts ;0)

This absolutely gorgeous stamp is called Spring's Muse (LS-010-V) by Third Coast Rubber Stamps.  Summer, Autumn and Winter completes the set and while you're checking them out also take a peek at the elements fairies, Air, Water, Fire and Earth too!  They're all so divine :0)
I had an absolute ball colouring her and I'm very pleased with how my card turned out :0)

Spring's Muse (LS-010-V) Third Coast Rubber Stamps

Stamp the image with Memento Tuxedo Black on Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock and colour the image with Copic markers.  For her hair I used E11, 13 and 15.  Skin:  E0000, 000, 01 and 02.  Face detail:  BG10, 11, YR00 and 02.  Eyes:  BG13 and 15.  Flowers and Leaves:  E01, 02, YR00, 02, BG13, 15 and 49.  Add highlights to her eyes with a white gel pen.

The decorative cardstock I used is from the CardMaker's kit of the month club.  I like getting the kits so I have all these cool cardstocks and embellishments that coordinate nicely together.  Make a folded card from teal cardstock with white polka dots that has glitter detail and cut a mat slightly smaller from black cardstock.  Then a mat from the floral peachy/orange cardstock that also has glitter details.  Distress the peach and the black mats with Tim's Distress Tool.  Layer and adhere everything with double sided tape.  Add the gorgeous silk flowers with matching glittery brads (also from the same CardMaker kit and the punch out colour coordinated leaves and finish off with the self-adhesive black pearl embellishments.  I would have loved to have gone more dimensional with my embellishments but this card has to make it to the UK safe and sound even with extra padding and hand cancelling surcharges so I try not to go too crazy!

Here's a peek at the inside of the card too.  I decided to pick up on the swirls and daisy design and used a little cling stamp set I also got from CardMaker.  The sentiment I got in South Africa and there's no company info on the wood block so I haven't a clue who makes that.  The sentiment is stamped with Brilliance Rocket Red Gold, the Daisies with the pinkis-orange colour from the Brilliance Aurora tri-pad and the flourishes with mix of the Brilliance Peacock tri-pad.  All the ink pads have that wonderful pearlescent shimmer to them.

Of course I had to stamp a matching design on the peach envelope too!

I can't wait for it to arrive and see my Sissypoo's face on Skype and listen for screaming from across the pond when she sees her pressie too, hee hee ;0)

Have a super weekend everyone!  I'll be back next week with another Melt Art project and this time it will be a mixed media card so stay tuned :0)

Clear UTEE Texture Tread Pendant!

Hello Everyone!
I'm back today with another Melt Art Texture Tread project!

Last week I showed you how to make a really cool bracelet with gold UTEE disc shaped pieces and now I've got a pendant to share that was made the same way but this time I mixed in a surprise ingredient!  Click on the photo below if you missed the bracelet project!

You will need the following supplies:
Ranger Melting Pot
Ranger Melt Art Texture Tread:  Floral Flourishes
Clear UTEE
Perfect Pearl powder by Perfect Pearls
Small Round Cookie Cutter
Non-Stick Craft Sheet
Silver pendant disc bail and chain
Patera Embellishment Collection
E6000 adhesive or G-S Hypo Cement
Clear embossing ink pad

I used the same Floral Flourishes Melt Art Texture Tread which is a fun new product by Ranger!

On to the fun!  Set up your work area just like I said before in my previous project by laying down a non-stick craft sheet to protect your table.  Pour a generous amount of clear UTEE into the Melting Pot and allow the powder to melt completely.  While that's happening decide which part of the Texture Tread you're going to use.  I really like all the small moments within the Floral Flourishes design that has the little flowers so decided to go with the same design for my pendant piece.  Prepare the small round cookie cutter by coating the inside with clear embossing ink.  The ink acts as a release agent and helps the hardened UTEE pop out of the cookie cutter easily.  Once the UTEE is molten sprinkle a generous scoop of Perfect Pearl into the UTEE - that's the white powder by Perfect Pearls.  You don't want to completely mix it in so just go with one or two stirs.  You can see in the photo at the beginning of my post the wonderful shimmer the Perfect Pearls gives the UTEE...the photo really doesn't do it justice so you'll just have to try this out and see for yourself ;0)

Place the cookie cutter where you want it and pour a small amount of the UTEE into it.  Leave it alone for just a few seconds and then you can carefully peel it off the Texture Tread.  Like I said before, the thickness of the UTEE piece will depend on how much you pour in.  I also want to remind you to beware turning the cookie cutter upside down to look at it when you first remove it, especially if you removed it fairly quickly!  I did this on one of my thicker pieces and got a fright when the still runny and very hot UTEE poured out the other side on to my hand!  So just wait a few more seconds for the UTEE to harden up and don't try to remove the UTEE piece immediately either coz it will either still be runny in the middle or soft and you don't want to warp the shape by forcing it out.  Just put the cookie cutter to one side and allow it to cool.  Once cool enough the UTEE hardens and shrinks and the piece will just pop out easily.  This UTEE piece is 1 inch in diameter and was the perfect fit for the larger of the pendant bails by Imaginisce.  But you can use any kind of flat backed glue on bail or the Charm links like the ones in the Patera collection that is currently on sale at Blockheads Paper Arts!  I adhered the UTEE piece inside the disc bail with G-S Hypo cement and hung it on a silver chain.  The Black Cord necklace on sale at Blockheads would look stunning too and if you use one of the Patera charm links you could also embellish your unique pendant with a charm or beaded dangle!

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my project and will keep an eye out for my next one coz I've still got more Melt Art creations to share!

I've entered my jewelry project in the following challenges:
Stamp-n-Doodle - Swirls Challenge
Crafts and Me #89 - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp - Anything But a Card
Belli Challenge - Anything But a Card
(my something forgotten and a few months old is the jewelry pendant and chain)

Blockheads ETP Challenge Ends June 21st!

Hello Everyone, I hope you all had a fabulous Father's Day weekend ;0)
Just a quickie reminder that my ETP Technique Challenge over at Blockheads Paper Arts closes this Wednesday!  Don't let those awesome prizes get away from you!

Don't know what ETP stands for?  It's Embossed Toilet Paper...yep, it's still a shocker seeing toilet paper mentioned in a stamping related post LOL :0)

The ETP needs some time to dry coz you use lots of water with your embossing folders to create really unique handmade papers to be used as backgrounds or embellishments so start embossing now!!

Check out my tutorial on Blockheads' Rubber Stamping Techniques page.

Play around, have loads of fun and then share your creations by entering the Blog Hop Technique Challenge on Blockheads' Blog for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate, there's a code you need to add to your blog for your entry to count but its super easy to do and all the info is located on the techniques page, and if you don't have a blog you can also enter via our Facebook Group instead for a chance to win your choice of a 4" x 5" set of Blockheads' stamps cut on cling cushion!  Awesome right!  So what do you say, want to play with us?!

You don't have to use Blockheads stamps to enter but of course we'd love it if you did and you don't even have to own an embossing/die cutting machine either if you've got a friend who will let you borrow an embossing folder, or better yet, persuade her to take the challenge too and make a day of it ;0)  The challenge closes on June 21st so you've only got a few days left!

Check out my ETP projects and the ones created by my fellow Blockheads Design Team mates PLUS the awesome entries submitted so far by clicking on the links in the inlinkz collection below!
I look forward to seeing yours there shortly too ;0)

Melt Art Fun with Ranger's Texture Treads!

Happy Friday Everyone!
I've been having a fantastic time playing around with one of Ranger's new Melt Art Texture Treads.  I've got a variety of projects to share using the Floral Flourish Texture Tread which is now available through Blockheads Paper Arts.  They have 4 of the 6 available designs for you to choose from.  If you haven't played around with UTEE for a while you're going to want to dust off your Melting Pots and give these new Texture Treads a whirl!

What is a Texture Tread you ask, well basically it's a design on a sheet of black flexible rubber that will withstand the heat of the UTEE.  We've all played around with pressing our rubber stamps into melted UTEE many times but what's really unique about these rubber sheets is that the same design comes embossed on one side and then debossed as a mirror image-negative on the same Texture Tread!  How cool is that!

For my first project I made a bracelet with gold UTEE and the Floral Texture Tread and poured the UTEE directly onto the Tread.

You will need the following supplies:
Ranger melting Pot
Ranger Melt Art Texture Tread:  Floral Flourishes
Gold UTEE
Small Round Cookie Cutter
Non-Stick Craft Sheet
Gold/Brass Bracelet Blank
E6000 adhesive or G-S Hypo Cement
Clear embossing ink pad
Sand paper

Set up your work area on a non-stick craft sheet to protect your work surface.  Pour a generous amount of gold UTEE into the Melting Pot and allow the powder to melt completely.
While you patiently wait for the UTEE to turn to molten liquid decide which parts of the Texture Tread design you want to use by moving a metal cookie cutter shape around the TTread so you can see immediately what appeals to you.  Then prepare the cookie cutter by dabbing your finger onto a clear embossing pad and rubbing the ink around the inside of the cookie cutter.  The ink will act as a release agent so you won't have any problems getting your UTEE piece out once it hardens.
Once the UTEE is molten place the cookie cutter where you want it and pour a small amount of the UTEE into it.  Leave it alone for just a few seconds and then you can carefully peel it off the Texture Tread.  Now the thickness of the UTEE piece will depend on how much you pour in.  If you poured quite a bit in then beware turning the cookie cutter upside down to look at it when you first remove it, especially if you removed it fairly quickly!  I did this on one of my thicker pieces and got a fright when the still runny and very hot UTEE poured out the other side on to my hand....ouch!  So just wait a few more seconds for the UTEE to harden up ;0)  Don't try to remove the UTEE piece immediately either coz it will either still be runny in the middle or soft and you don't want to warp the shape by pressing it out.  Just put the cookie cutter to one side and allow it to cool.  Once cool enough the UTEE hardens and shrinks and the piece will just pop out easily.
*I was asked how big the pieces are...each one is 1 inch in diameter.

I decided to go with the sections that had the flowers in the design on the debossed side for four of my pieces and then did two on the embossed side too.  You can see above how differently they turned out.  I only decided to make the bracelet after I'd had a ball making all my pieces so that's why I ended up incorporating the two odd ones into my project too.

An Elegant Card for a Special Occasion using my ETP for Blockheads' Technique Challenge

Happy Friday Everyone!

Just one more sleep to go until the weekend so just in case you're attending a special event here's an elegant card idea for you!  This design is pretty with soft hues and would be suitable for a wedding or an anniversary and even a girl's graduation card!  But for me it's a wedding card and the use of the goddess is a fun alternative to an image of a bride ;0)

I think I've taken toilet paper to a whole new level of elegance here don't you!  Yep, you read that right, I used another one of my handmade embossed toilet paper creations for the background.  I used an Art Deco Cuttlebug embossing folder on this one and was inspired to go with an Art Nouveau colour scheme and the layout of the sketch challenge #148 over at Tuesday Morning Sketches.  I used the goddess frieze from the Greco-Roman sheet (top right) and the Congratulations sentiment from my favourite Verses sheet.  Both are exclusive Blockheads Paper Arts' sets.

My elegant card started out like this

then transformed into this

Check out my Blockheads Technique Challenge tutorial on making your own handmade embossed toilet paper (ETP).

I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to emboss this piece of ETP and applied sage green, peach and a touch of pale pink Pebble Chalks with my finger tip instead of using a chalk applicator.  During my experiments I found that being too rough with colour application can cause the ETP to get bitty and using my finger helped keep it to a minimum!  The left pic above shows the soft effect of the chalks and the pic on the right shows how much stronger the colour becomes after spritzing it with water.  To make the background even yummier I added a wonderful diamond shimmer to it by spritzing with Smooch Vanilla Spritz.  You can click on the pic below to enlarge and see the pretty sparkle.

The ETP is the perfect size to fit onto a 6.5 x 5 inch card blank (Michaels).  Cut a mat from sage green cardstock slightly smaller than the folded card and adhere the ETP panel to it with craft glue.  Punch holes in all 4 corners and attach sage green pearlized brads (Recollections - Michaels).  Adhere everything to the folded card with craft glue.  Die cut out 2 strips of the Spellbinders Ironworks border die from the same sage green cardstock then cut a strip from a sheet of pearlized peach cardstock and adhere down the center of the card.

Stamp the goddess frieze onto textured white cardstock with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.  For a touch of subtle colouring apply sage green and peach Pebble Chalks to parts of the image with a detail chalk applicator and blend with a Dove Blender pen or E-Z Chalk Enhancer fluid.  Die cut out the image with a round Spellbinders die and edge it with the Peeled Paint DI.  Die cut out mats for the panel with a Spellbinders Lacey Circle die from green and peach cardstock.  Overlap the mats and adhere everything together with permanent adhesive tape.

Stamp the sentiment onto textured white cardstock, cut out and edge with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.  To make the 2nd part of the sentiment stand out a bit more I coloured it lightly with peach Pebble Chalks and a Dove Blender pen.  Die cut out a rectangle panel from peach cardstock with a Quickutz Lacey Rectangle die.  Cut the die cut in half and just adhere the lacey edges to the back of the sentiment panel with permanent adhesive tape.  Adhere the goddess panel and the sentiment to the card with craft glue.

Complete the card by embellishing the top and bottom sections of the peach strip with dimensional pearls made with a Magic Transparent White Pearl Pen and a piece of white organza ribbon knotted into a bow.  So pretty!  Are you in need of an idea with more of a masculine theme?  Then check out my other ETP card I made too ;0)

Don't forget that both of these cards were made with my embossed toilet paper technique which is the current Technique Challenge going on over at Blockheads Paper Arts right now!  So get creating and I look forward to seeing all your ETP projects in the inlinkz collection below and all the info for the challenge can be found at the link below :0)
