White On White Embossed and Die Cut Layered Art Cards - A Blockheads Design Team Tutorial!

Howzit Stampers!

I've been having loads of fun designing some art cards that play with texture, shadows and white on white embossed and die cut layering.  I've got a couple of different cards to share over the next few days that show just how gorgeous and elegant this style of card can be so stay tuned so you don't miss any of them!

I've taken photos from various angles with the light source coming from different directions to try and best show you how textured, luxurious and architectural the finished art card looks.  It was tricky but I think I've captured what I wanted to show you.  So in some of the photos the pearls and ribbon are more yellow than they really are.  The photo below shows the true colours nicely though.

Today's project is a 'Congratulations' art card with a floral theme and is perfect for special occasions like weddings, engagements, births and even graduations!  You can switch out the flower embossed background for another design to make the art card more guy friendly too.

I also wanted to demonstrate how fun it is to make cards that let the words do the talking instead of stamped imagery being the focal point!  The 'Congratulations' sentiment is a Blockheads Paper Arts exclusive stamp and is part of their Versus Full Sheet collection.

I started out by embossing the flower design, a Cuttlebug embossing folder, on the front of a white square folded card.  I then embossed a floral flourish design, also by Cuttlebug, on a piece of white cardstock and because I wanted to play with white on white layering the cardstock is slightly more creamy when compared to the folded card.  Cut out the panel and adhere it off center to the folded card with square pop dots for more dimension.

Stamp the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink on to a piece of white cardstock that matches the white folded card.  Then die cut and emboss the label with a Spellbinders die.

Then die cut 4 Spellbinders fancy corners from white cardstock the same shade as the folded card and adhere to the four corners of the floral flourish panel with The Ultimate Crafter's Pick glue.

Cut 4 small pieces of off white/cream ribbon and adhere them to the sentiment label with permanent adhesive then attach the sentiment label to the card with pop dots for even more dimension.  Adhere the other ends of the ribbon to the card with permanent adhesive and trim away the excess.

Embellish with self-adhesive pearl flourishes and 4 single pearls down the right hand side of the card.

I finished off my art card with a matching bow adhered to the right hand side with a glue dot.  This photo shows the true colours of the pearls and ribbon too!

So that concludes part one of my Blockheads Design Team 'White on White Embossed and Die Cut Layered Art Cards' tutorial!
Check back tomorrow for part 2 :0)
