'Madeline Usher' Cameo Necklace - Another Blockheads Design Team Creation!

Happy World Card Making Day Everyone!

A few days ago I shared my 'Bride of Usher' art card and promised you a matching Necklace and here it is, I hope you like it ;0)  I should have shared the card today instead with it being World Card Making Day and all, silly me!

If you're a fan of Tim Holtz Idea-ology goodies then you're going to love this project coz I used one of his tarnished gold Ornate Plates as the frame for my spooky miniature 'portrait painting' of
Madeline Usher!

I used the same Goth Girl stamp available from  Blockheads Paper Arts exclusive Di's Characters rubber stamp collection as the focal point of my dark and twisty Cameo Necklace as well as the Script 'Backgrounds for All Occassions' stamp for the backing of this piece.  I had a spooktacular time designing this and the matching art card!

Supplies
Ink pads:
Brilliance Lightning Black, Memento Tuxedo Black
Copic markers:
E000, E41, W1, W5 and Black 110
Prismacolor pencils:
Cream, Chartreuse,  Crimson Lake, Black Cherry and Black
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Ornate Plate
Judikins Diamond Glaze
Neenah Solar White cardstock
Black cardstock
Metallic Gold Paint Pen
Xyron Permanent Adhesive
Jewelry Findings and tools
Assorted glass beads
Dark Plum suede cord

I started out by stamping the Goth Girl image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a sheet of Neenah Solar White cardstock that is perfect for Copics or the brand new Marvy Le Plume Permanent markers - stay tuned for more news and tutorials featuring these new alcohol based markers!   I then used the center oval of the Ornate Plate as my template for cutting out the 'portrait painting'.  I coloured the image with a combination of Copics and Prismacolor pencils and added some gold details to the design with a metallic gold paint pen.  I finished off with a coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze.

Tip:
If you don't have an extra-fine point pen then you can press the nib of the broad point pen down on a non-absorbent surface like a piece of plastic a few times until you've got a puddle of paint and use a toothpick to apply the gold details!

I cut out a matching oval from black cardstock and ran it through my Xyron to add adhesive and stamped the Script design on it with Brilliance Lightning Black pigment ink.  Then I mounted the 'portrait painting' onto the black cardstock.

To give the Cameo a finished look and to secure the 'portrait painting' inside the frame I filled the shallow front of the oval with more Judikins Diamond Glaze.  I held the 'portrait painting' in place with some pieces of painters tape on the back of the frame while the glaze set.

While the glaze dried I made the necklace from dark plum suede cord and 3 different beaded dangles coz I couldn't make up my mind which one I preferred at the time but now I've decided my favourite is the pink heart ;0)  I originally wanted a red heart to match the blood red eyelet heart on my art card but was dismayed to discover I didn't have one in my stash.  So I made a dangle with a dark red tear drop bead to represent all Madeline's shed tears, the pink heart dangle which actually picks up on the pinkish/salmon colour in Madeline's wedding gown and the green heart that picks up on her green toned skin.  I included dark red and black beads in all three to bring out the other colours in the 'portrait painting' and to match the suede cord.  Now I've got three different looks that I can change out as the mood strikes ;0)

I took my photos with a black background coz they best represented the true colours of the beads, a white or lighter background just made the colours too bright and ruined the overall dark and twisty mood of the antique piece!

Today I kicked off DominoART's spooktacular 31 Days of Halloween event over on the DominoART blog!  Hop onto your broomsticks and go and check out all the Halloween eye-candy we'll be sharing all month long!

Happy Stamping!
